The work of the ethics and governance action group is grounded in a vision of AI that is human-centred, fair, equitable, inclusive and respectful of human rights and democracy, and aims at contributing positively to the public good.

The ethics and governance group will strive to provide the tech community in Brighton and the wider region an AI Implementation Framework for engaging with AI.  Ethical principles and guidelines that ensure the appropriate use of AI-powered technologies in accordance with ethical, legal, and social considerations congruent with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Our mandate aligns closely with the mission behind brighton ai, striving to foster and contribute to the responsible development and use of AI-powered technologies. Participation is free and voluntary.

The group collaborates with other brighton ai groups when projects share similar dimensions.

goals

  • provide a forum for the public to contribute to shaping and influencing the current AI ethics debate by promoting opportunities for the public to express its views on AI-related policies

  • promote best practices through sharing case studies, a repository of AI frameworks and AI principles, AI governance tools and AI regulations

  • provide startups, scale-ups,  SMEs, and companies with insights and guidelines to help navigate ethical AI development 

  • respond to public calls for consultations

  • provide our communities with opportunities to discuss emerging issues and current research related to AI ethics and governance.

Q1/2-2024 goal - achieved!!!

  • to create and socialise a draft ethics framework, specifically for Brighton as a city and tech hub, an interpretation of the EU version by the end of Q1 2024.

    AI Implementation Framework - Alpha Version

Q3-2024 goal

  • to engage with the City Council and other interested parties to further develop the draft ethics framework, and integrate European regulations where relevant.

Q4-2024 goal

  • to launch the City’s own E&G Framework, with official ratification, as an exemplar.
